The Nigeria Police, Delta Command, has confirmed that the State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC) workplace in Ughelli North Local has been set ablaze.
The police have begun investigation into circumstances that led to the burning of the workplace.
The command’s Spokesperson, Mr Andrew Aniamaka, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday night time in Warri.
He additionally assured that perpetrators can be apprehended quickly and dropped at justice.
Aniamaka additionally stated that the ugly incident led to the cancellation of the Saturday’s state-wide Council election within the space.
He stated: “Some thugs set ablaze the DSIEC workplace in Ughelli North.
“Investigation is already ongoing and I guarantee you that the perpetrators of the act will likely be apprehended and dropped at e-book.
“Election could not hold in the local government because of the action,” he stated.”
Mr Felix Ekure, the Chairman, All Progressive Congress (APC) in Ughelli North, alleged on Saturday that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was accountable for the burning to cowl up its perceived atrocities.
“We had been knowledgeable that election supplies had been dropped at the DSIEC workplace in Ughelli North on Friday.
“And we mobilised our supporters to the venue to make sure that the supplies had been protected.
“At the purpose of distribution, we insisted on seeing the end result sheets and different delicate supplies however the DSIEC official claimed that he forgot the unique end result sheets in Asaba.
“We insisted that he should convey the end result sheets earlier than the distribution of supplies.

“The PDP thugs then set the DSIEC office ablaze in order to cover up their atrocities,” he stated.
Responding, the PDP Chairman in Ughelli North, Mr Lawrence Agbatutu, informed NAN on Sunday that the APC leaders within the space allegedly ordered their supporters to set the constructing ablaze.
“Two day to the election, the APC stationed their boys on the DSIEC workplace. The leaders ordered their loyalists to burn DSIEC constructing, it was not the PDP supporters.
“PDP is ever ready for the election, we are not afraid because we did a lot of campaign,” he stated. (NAN)
