Lorry driver remanded for operating over motorcyclist

    An Osun Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ile-Ife on Wednesday remanded a tipper lorry driver in jail for allegedly killing a motorcyclist.

    The Magistrate, Mr Olalekan Ijiyode, ordered that the accused, Makinde Mutairu, 35, be remanded in jail custody pending the consideration of his bail software.

    The Prosecutor, Insp. Emmanuel Abdullahi, instructed the courtroom that the accused on Jan 13, 2018 knocked down and killed the motorcyclist at Akeredolu village close to Ile-Ife.

    According to him, the accused drove a Bedford lorry with registration quantity OYO XE 494 BDT dangerously on a public freeway and with no driver’s licence.

    The prosecutor defined that the accused, by means of reckless driving, crashed into one Simeon Okechukwu, whereas on a bike with registration quantity LAGOS EKY 841 QH, leading to dying of a passenger, one Bukola Okechukwu.

    Abdullahi mentioned that the offence contravened Sections four, 18 (1) of the Criminal Code Law of Osun, 2002.

    The accused pleaded responsible to a depend of manslaughter and never responsible to counts of reckless driving, with out driving licence and damages.

    The defence counsel, Miss Mariam Lai-Ibrahim, was requested to make written software for consideration of the bail of the accused.
