NSCDC arrests 26 suspected criminals

    No fewer than 26 suspected criminals have been arrested in 5 days by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Nasarawa State.

    The suspects had been arrested between December 28, 2017 and January 1, 2017.

    The Commandant of the Corps, Mr. Muhammad Mahmoud-Fari, offered the suspects to newsmen on Tuesday in Lafia.

    He mentioned that they had been apprehended for allegedly participating in cultism, theft, defilement, breach of belief and assault.

    Mahmoud-Fari mentioned that seven had been arrested for theft, 4 for assault, 13 arrested for cultism, one arrested for defilement and one other suspect was arrested for breach of belief.

    11 suspected cultists belonging to a gaggle often called Assist Group had been arrested, two suspected cultists belonging to a different group often called Touch and See had been additionally arrested.

    The suspected cultists had been arrested on the Polytechnic in Lafia and 7 different suspects had been arrested for alleged theft.

    “Then now we have one suspected case of defilement, one case of breach of belief, 4 suspects arrested for assault.

    “So we have arrested a total 26 suspected criminals. After all investigations, the suspects would be charged to court and prosecuted accordingly to serve as a deterrent to others,” He mentioned.

    Mahmoud-Fari mentioned the arrest of the suspects was in collaboration with officers of Nasarawa Youth Empowerment Scheme (NAYES) and a few members of the general public who shared data with the corps.

    “That is why I at all times enchantment to the general public to help us. We want their understanding and cooperation as a result of if you combat collectively, you succeed.

    “We are not calling on civilians to go and fight, but to be our informants.” (NAN)
