The Yobe authorities on Sunday mentioned the native authorities employees verification train had saved the state over N500 million paid month-to-month to ghost and irregular workers.
Alhaji Dawa Maigari, the state commissioner for Local authorities and Chieftaincy affairs, disclosed this whereas fielding questions from newsmen in Damaturu.
He mentioned the wage invoice of staff within the 17 native authorities councils dropped from N1.5 Billion to N990 million after the verification train.
The commissioner mentioned the train had expunged ghost staff and, others with irregular employments on the payroll of the native councils.
“Five distressed local government councils that could not pay salaries before the verification now pay the salaries without borrowing from other local councils” Maigari mentioned.
According to the commissioner, because the coordinating ministry of the native authorities councils, paid 5 months promotion arrears of N324 million to four, 803 educating and non educating employees.
The commissioner additionally mentioned the ministry final yr paid N1.121 billion as contribution for fee of gratuity to 2,127 retirees of native authorities councils within the state.
He counseled Gov. Gaidam for immediate fee of salaries to each state and native authorities staff.
